SingAREN Supported NICT 800Gbps High-Speed Data Transfer Experiment At SuperComputing SC24

18 Dec 2024 – In the recent SuperComputing 2024 Conference held in Atlanta Georgia on 17 – 22 Nov 2024, NICT carried out a high-speed 800 Gbps data transfer experiment1 using NII’s high-speed data transfer tool, Massively Multi-Connections file transfer protocol (MMCFTP)2. Data was routed from Tokyo, Osaka Japan to Atlanta using multiple 100Gbps routes assembled from various global Research and Education networks.

SingAREN was proud to support NICT demonstration of this high-tech innovation by carrying 3 x 100Gbps of the traffic volume via three separate paths as shown in Figure 1 (P3, P6, and P7 are highlighted in red).

Figure 2 shows the overall traffic volume of the three 100 Gbps lines that were hosted at SingAREN during the 21-22 Nov 2024 demonstration.

Please refer to the NICT published report outlining the experiment’s findings and analysis in this link.3

This exercise showcases the seamless teamwork between the international R&E partnership to accomplish a common goal – to advance innovation and challenge the boundaries of connectivity!

A/Prof. Francis Lee, President of SingAREN sums up: “SingAREN is privileged to partner in this demonstration to push the envelope of technology.  It shows the high level of cooperation in the research and education community to push the limits and power of technology.”
