Registration for Revolutionising Scientific Collaboration: The Evolution of ESnet, DOE’s Science Mission Network – 8 Mar 2023
Join us for an exclusive two-session seminar on Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) to delve into evolution of ESnet and uncover the latest advancements in network technology. This two-session seminar will provide an overview of ESnet as well as discuss technical details on ESnet’s 6th generation network (ESnet6) that was deployed in 2022. The first session will offer a brief introduction on ESnet’s funding agency, the US Department of Energy, and provide a high-level summary of ESnet’s evolution over the last 4 decades, including some forward-looking activities. The second session will provide an in-depth view on the ESnet6 network design and build, which is followed by a discussion on drivers that will influence requirements for the next generation of the ESnet network.

Speaker’s Profile:
Chin Guok is the Chief Technology Officer for ESnet, DOE’s high performance network user facility. He has been involved in network engineering at ESnet for over 25 years and has led many innovative projects during that time. In 2006, Guok conceived and led the ESnet On-demand Secure Circuits and Advanced Reservation System (OSCARS) project which received the R&D100 award in 2013, and the Department of Energy Secretary’s Honor Award in 2014. Most recently, he led the design for ESnet’s next-generation network, ESnet6, which launched in early October 2022. Guok’s research interests include high-performance networking and network protocols, dynamic network resource provisioning, network tuning issues, and hybrid network traffic engineering. Guok received an M.S in Computer Science from the University of Arizona in 1997 and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of the Pacific in 1991.
